Leadership Mountain Brook group selling city-inspired T-shirts

A group of Leadership Mountain Brook students created and are now selling Mountain Brook-inspired T-shirts. The shirts, created as part of the annual Leadership Mountain Brook class project, are the brainchild of students Annie Hughes, Lindsay Brakefield, Kate Dodson and Virginia Beasley.

The shirts feature a simple design on purpose, the group said when it presented the idea to the City Council in April. The front of the shirt features the words “Mountain Brook,” while a hand-drawn rendition of the city’s most noticeable landmarks—such as the Crestline clock tower, the old mill, as well as the Harrison’s and Gilchrist building—is displayed on the back.

Local artist and dentist, Dr. Ruth Penton Polson hand-drew the design for the back of the shirts, said group member Hughes. Polson is a member of the Mountain Brook Chamber Board and Mountain Brook Art's Association. She is a dentist at Pearly White Dentistry in Cahaba Heights.

The shirt is a Comfort Colors tee and will be sold in four colors. Available sizes include adult S-XL. A youth version, in sizes XS-L, is available in one color.

The shirts will officially hit the shelves at Smith’s Variety on Tuesday, May 10.

“We are so excited to partner with Smith's Variety in Crestline,” said Hughes.

Proceeds from the sale of the T-shirts will benefit future Leadership classes and programs.
