Three Alabama schools in need of sporting equipment had their wish granted by Alabama Forever.

The non-profit, which is dedicated to helping Alabama communities in need, was founded by Mountain Brook resident Alex Sokol.

"The focus of Alabama Forever will simply be helping Alabamians in need through projects that impact the communities as a whole,” Sokol said.

Without this equipment, these schools would have had a tough year and may not have been able to meet their financial obligations, keeping student athletes from having the opportunity be involved in their sport. The new equipment provides a safe environment for these athletes to enjoy their game.

Alabama Forever provided Greene County High School’s baseball team with new equipment and uniforms for the 2012 season.

“The equipment that Alabama Forever has provided for us was necessary to help our players to establish basic fundamentals of the game. The donations created a sense of unity and respect for the baseball community, which will help us in the future,” said Jason Spinks, Greene County High School Baseball coach.

RC Hatch High School’s track program received uniforms, equipment for field events, hurdles and shoes, along with funding for travel to away games and umpire fees allowing them to participate in the 2012 season.

“Our tradition continues and young men and women at Hatch have an opportunity to compete in a sport that teaches them hard work and self-discipline,” said RC Hatch’s track coach, William Bowles.

Dauphin Island Elementary school received brand new basketball goals to replace their rusted equipment, providing a safer play area for children.

“Alabama Forever and Alex Sokol will be remembered for a lifetime,” Diane Allgood, Principal at Dauphin Island Elementary School, said.
