Mountain Brook Schools to host 'Student Showcase'

By Keith McCoy

Mountain Brook Schools will host a “Student Showcase” Tuesday, May 10.

According to the Mountain Brook Schools website, the event will allow parents and family members to learn more about the school system by talking directly to its students.

From 5-7 p.m., approximately 75 booths will be set up for the school system’s students—in grades kindergarten through 12—to share with visitors about specific things they are learning in school.

The Student Showcase will be held just outside City Hall in Crestline Village, 56 Church Street. Some streets in the immediate area, such as Oak Street, will be closed during the showcase’s hours.

As visitors to the showcase walk down Oak Street, they will be able to learn from second graders as they explain their experiences learning to write. Next to them, according to the event description, junior high students could be plotting important historic sites on world maps by longitude and latitude. High school students may be talking about how they are learning to apply statistical principles to everyday life. The showcase will also feature performances by various student fine arts groups.

Although every student cannot be involved in this year’s event, all parents are invited to attend. Local restaurants and merchants have been asked to stay open during the event.
