The Birmingham Zoo to offer free admission to military in honor of Memorial Day weekend

In honor of Memorial Day, all veterans, active and retired military and their dependents will receive free admission to the Birmingham Zoo on Saturday, May 28 through Monday, May 30 with proof of valid military identification.

For an additional cost, all guests are invited to explore the zoo’s newest exhibit, Dino Discovery, feed the lorikeets in the Schaeffer Eye Center Lorikeet Aviary, ride the Wild Slide or soar through the treetops on the Jane H. Brock Soaring Safari Zipline Adventure, as well as take part in the Kiwanis Giraffe Encounter, ride the train and the carousel.

The Zoo’s seasonal shows will begin operating daily Saturday, May 28. This year, the Red Diamond Sea Lion Splash Show is themed “Zoo Olympics.” The show will provide a chance to learn more about these  animals, while incorporating ways to help the wildlife here in Birmingham.

Guests are invited to experience the Schaeffer Eye Center Lorikeet Aviary and feed the lorikeets up-close. Schaeffer Eye Center Wildlife Shows, another guest favorite, are exciting and educational narrated presentations of a variety of animals trained to exhibit their natural behaviors.

Beginning Memorial Day weekend, the Birmingham Zoo will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for extended summer hours on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Extended summer hours for Tuesdays and Fridays will end August 2. Extended summer hours for Saturdays and Sundays will end September 4.
