UAB Associate Professor to give lecture on 'Investing Portfolios' at Emmet O’Neal

Andreas Rauterkus, Ph.D., an Associate Professor in Accounting and Finance at the UAB Collat School of Business, will host a presentation regarding the global financial system on Thursday March 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Emmet O’Neal Library.

Rauterkus’ talk will be the fourth of several presentations as a part of "$mart Directions @ Emmet O’Neal Library," a series of seminar-style programs on personal finance and investing. The program is made possible by a grant from the FINRA Investor Education Foundation through Smart investing@your library®, a partnership with the American Library Association.

This session of the seminar series will provide attendees with the opportunity to understand the role of bonds and annuities in investing portfolios. 

The doors to the Library Meeting Room at Emmet O’Neal Library will open at 6 p.m. and a light meal will be served. Rauterkus will begin his talk at 6:30 p.m. The series will be recorded and available through the Emmet O’Neal library’s website or on DVD for those that are unable to attend the presentation.  

On Thursday, April 14, Rauterkas will hold another talk on ethical investing.

About Dr. Rauterkas

Dr. Rauterkas earned his Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Cincinnati. He also holds a M.B.A. from East Carolina University and an undergraduate/graduate degree in Finance and Banking from J.W. Goethe University in his native Frankfurt/Main, Germany. Dr. Rauterkus spent three years as a Finance instructor at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, he taught at Siena College in Loudonville, NY and is currently an assistant professor of finance at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

His research interests are in financial institutions and corporate governance with an emphasis on conflict of interest situations in international banking. Further, Dr. Rauterkus possesses comparative knowledge of international banking systems and current trends especially with respect to European Union countries. Most recently, Dr. Rauterkus focused his research on small business lending, the impact of lender distance on loan performance and the role of credit unions.
