No Mountain Brook High School tradition can compete with the dazzle and shine of the Miss Olympian Pageant. On Jan. 27, three sophomores, six juniors and seven senior girls will compete to be crowned Miss Olympian 2013.

The night will begin with three group dances involving all of the contestants. After the opening acts draw to a close, the audience witnesses the most anticipated part of the pageant – besides the crowning of course – the talent section. The amazing vocalists, instrumentalists, and dancers that attend the high school always blow the audience away. This year, Jess Key will perform gymnastics routine, which will certainly stand out.

“It’s such a cool experience! I’ve never done anything like it before,” junior Hannah Kendrick said.

A total of 20 junior and senior girls will use their talents to direct, choreograph, design the set, manage tickets and publicity, find judges and male talent, and ensure hospitality. Mrs. Covington, Mrs. Bertella, and Mrs. Rosell, all teachers at MBHS, sponsor the group of girls.

“There are so many things that go into planning Miss Olympian; it takes a lot of planning, dedication, and teamwork. Everyone brings their own talents and skills to the table to help make the pageant a success,” said Catherine Kinney, a staff member.

The smiles on the contestants’ faces as they sparkle and shine on the stage will signify the true meaning of a beauty pageant.
