MBHS named among nation's best by Newsweek

Mountain Brook High School was named among the best 2,000 public high schools in the nation by Newsweek and The Daily Beast websites in their recently released annual rankings.

Eight high schools in the Birmingham metro area were selected. Mountain Brook was number 152 on the list, behind only Jefferson County International Baccalaureate School among Alabama schools. Other area schools named were the Homewood, Vestavia, Oak Mountain, Spain Park, Ramsey and Hewitt-Trussville.

The rankings were based on six factors: graduation rate (25 percent); college acceptance rate (25 percent); the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advance International Certificate of Education exams taken per student in the school (25 percent); average SAT/ACT test scores (10 percent); average scores on the AP, IB and AICE exams (10 percent); and percent of students enrolled in at least one AP, IB or AICE course (5 percent).
