MBJH names new assistant principal

Brook Gibbons is now serving as Mountain Brook Junior High’s new assistant principal, serving alongside Assistant Principal Derek Deerman and Principal Donald Clayton.

Gibbons is a familiar face at MBJH as she has been on staff since 1997. She was originally hired as a PE teacher and volleyball and softball coach, after she graduated from Samford University in 1995 and taught at Hayden High School for a year and a half.

During her time at Samford, she played volleyball on scholarship. Gibbons received her Masters in Educational Leadership at UAB in 2000 and her EdS from UAB in 2011. She added swimming to her list of coaching duties in 2011. In the fall of 2013, she filled in as assistant principal while Deerman was on leave for military duty.

In the spring of 2015, Gibbons was named athletic director at MBJH. She trained under Terry Cooper years before learning the new C2C program for Alabama High School Athletics Eligibility.

In August of this school year, Gibbons received her promotion to assistant principal in charge of curriculum and instruction, replacing Dr. Emily Freeland. She will continue to help with seventh-grade volleyball, but she will be turning softball and swimming coaching over to new coaches.

Gibbons is married to Robbie Gibbons, a teacher and coach at Homewood Middle School, and they have four children, ranging from fifth grade to a freshman in college. She is excited about her role in supporting teachers in their content areas and continuing to attend athletic events, just playing a different role.
