Highlands School National Junior Honor Society induction

Fourteen students from Highlands School were inducted as new members of the National Junior Honor Society in a ceremony held at Highlands on Thursday, May 17. Members were selected by the Faculty Council for meeting high standards in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship and character.

Students inducted were Mae Baird, Carolyn Calvert-Grimes, Ada Cohen, Anna Lisa Goodman, Alexandra Lohrke, Ford McInnis, Zoie McNeely, Grace O’Malley, Cecilia Reisner, Peter Scalise, Megan Seidel, Sarathi Shah, Tate Shuttlesworth and Livia Wilson. Mr. John Michael Bodnar was the guest speaker for the induction ceremony and charged the inductees with maintaining the qualities that granted them membership and valuing the qualities that make each of them unique.

Head of School Kathryn Woodson Barr and the faculty of Highlands School are very proud to recognize these outstanding members of our student body. National Junior Honor Society members are chosen for and then expected to continue their exemplary contributions to the school and the community.       

This is the third induction for the Highlands School Chapter of National Junior Honor Society. The chapter conducts service projects throughout the year for the school and the community.

Established in 1929 and sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, National Junior Honor Society ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious national organizations for students. Chapters exist in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. Territories, and Canada. Chapter membership recognizes students for their accomplishments and challenges them to develop further by taking an active role in school activities and community service.
