Hurowitz receives AP award

Altamont School Senior Haley Hurowitz was awarded the 2011 Siemans Award for Advanced Placement in the state of Alabama. Each year one male and female student from each state is awarded a $2,000 college scholarship and acknowledged for their achievements in Advanced Placement (AP) science and math courses. This year Hurowitz was among the 101 students recognized.

A study released by the College Board, “AP Students in College:  An Analysis of Five-Year Academic Careers,” reported that students who have taken AP math and science courses have a higher success rate in STEM fields than those who haven’t. Student enrollment in AP courses has increased by almost ten percent since 2010.
