Schools to host prescription drug abuse presentation

As a follow-up to the Hitting Home program, Mountain Brook Schools is presenting a program on prescription drug abuse featuring Stephen Taylor, M.D. The event will take place Thursday, April 18 from 6:30-7:45 p.m. in the Black Box Theater at Mountain Brook High School.

Taylor is board-certified in general psychiatry, child/adolescent psychiatry, pediatrics and addiction psychiatry. A graduate of Harvard College and Harvard School of Public Health, Taylor earned his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine. In addition to his private practice in Birmingham, he is the medical director of the Anti-Drug Program at National Basketball Association. He has provided lectures and workshops widely related to substance abuse, including programs for both students and parents in the Mountain Brook School System. This program will focus on the problem of the abuse of prescription drugs by youth.

Superintendent Dicky Barlow and Director of Student Services Dale Wisely are encouraging parents and teenagers to attend. They ask that those planning to come register their intent to attend the meeting here.
