Bucky McMillan Day declared

April 11 is now officially Bucky McMillan Day in Mountain Brook.

On April 10, Mayor Terry Oden read a proclamation that honored McMillan for his work as the coach of the Mountain Brook High School Boys Basketball Team and their two consecutive state championships. He then declared April 11 Bucky McMillan Day.

The proclamation was held as a part of a campaign party for candidate David Faulkner at the home of Danielle and Ed Welden.

Following the proclamation, Faulkner read article that had been written about McMillan, and McMillan spoke about how community rallies around the team.

The text of the proclamation read as follows:

"Wheras, Head Coach Bucky McMillan has led the Mountain Brook High School Boys Basketball Team to win two consecutive 6A State Championships in the past two years; and

Whereas, under the leadership of Head Coach Bucky McMillan the Mountain Brook High School Boys Basketball Team has placed No. 30 in the latest USA Today poll, making the honor the first national ranking in Mountain Brook's program history; and

Whereas, under the dedication and expert leadership capabilities of Head Coach Bucky McMillan, the Spartans won 23 straight games; and

Now, therefore, I, Lawrence T. Oden, by the virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Mountain Brook in the State of Alabama, do hereby proclaim that April 11, 2014, will be forever known as Bucky McMillan Day in the City of Mountain Brook, Alabama."
