Florence ends Spartans' seven game winning streak

by

Florence high school jumped out to an early two-touchdown lead and held on for a 33-21 win in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs.

Mountain Brook, riding a seven-game winning streak into postseason play, came back twice from 14-point deficits but was unable to pull out the victory.

Star quarterback Jacob Carroll led the Spartans with 130 yards passing.

"Our kids have hung together, especially in the September when we got off to a rough start," explained Spartans Head Coach Chris Yeager.  "I am proud of the way they competed, no matter what the scoreboard or the record book said."

Mountain Brook ended the season with a remarkable 7-4 record after an initial 0-3 start.
