GBYLA places 7 Spartans on All-State Team

The Greater Birmingham Youth Lacrosse Association has named seven Mountain Brook varsity lacrosse players to its 2016 all-state team. 

Thomas Byrne, Zachary Carroll, Taylor Carson, John Annesley DeGaris, Patrick Doud, Sean Doud and Crawford Tindle were named to the team. Carroll, Carson, DeGaris and Patrick Doud were each selected to the first team.

Byrne was a three-year starter at goalie and the recipient of the 2016 Defensive Player of the Year award. During the 2016 season, he allowed only 78 goals, an average of six goals per game, and saved 60% of the shots he faced.

Carroll is a three-year starter at midfield. Carroll was the recipient of the 2015 MVP award and a co-recipient of the 2016 MVP Award. During the 2016 season, he tallied 32 goals and 15 assists along with 31 ground balls and 14 take-aways. He has committed to play college lacrosse at the University of Denver.

Carson was a three-year starter at attack. Carson was a co-recipient of the 2015 and 2016 Offensive Player of the Year awards. Taylor tallied 31 goals and a team-leading 20 assists along with 17 ground balls. He has committed to play college lacrosse at Birmingham Southern College.

DeGaris is a two-year starter at midfield. During the 2016 season, he tallied 20 goals and 12 assists along with 56 ground balls, while winning 65% of his face-offs.

Patrick Doud was a three-year starter at defense.  Doud was the recipient of the 2015 Defensive Player of the Year award and a co-recipient of the 2016 MVP Award. During the 2016 season, he tallied 75 ground balls and 50 take-aways, both team-leading, along with one assist. He has committed to play college lacrosse at Rhodes College.

Sean Doud was a first-year starter at defense and a former Brine National All-American. During the 2016 season, Sean tallied 63 ground balls, 18 take-aways and one goal despite missing five games with a broken hand.

Crawford Tindle was a three-year starter at attack. He was named All-State in 2014 and 2015. Tindle was a co-recipient of the 2015 Offensive Player of the Year award and a co-recipient of the 2016 MVP award. During the 2016 season, he tallied a team-leading 41 goals along with seven assists and 16 ground balls. He has committed to play college lacrosse at Birmingham Southern College.

"Having seven players named all-state is quite an achievement for our program," said Brian Doud, head coach of the Mountain Brook varsity lacrosse team. "It speaks highly of our commitment to developing players and to the quality of players competing in the Mountain Brook lacrosse program. This is an achievement and a source of pride for the entire Mountain Brook lacrosse community."
