MBHS basketball plays tournaments this week

The Mountain Brook Lady Spartans are hosting the Spartan Classic basketball tournament through Tuesday, Nov. 25. In the tournament opener, Sara Carr scored 21 points to lead Mountain Brook to a 60-33 win over Pinson Valley. The Lady Spartans were to meet Hillcrest of Tuscaloosa on Monday night. Tuesday's games are at 3:30, 5 and 6:30 p.m. with the championship game at 8 p.m.

The Mountain Brook boys are in Tuscaloosa taking part in the Boostr Capstone Classic at Shelton State Community College. The tournament runs Monday through Wednesday. The Spartans were 3-1 heading into the tournament.

The brackets were announced Monday for the 16-team Steel City Classic, to be played at Samford University Dec. 19-22. Mountain Brook boys will face Midfield in the first round, Monday, Dec. 19, at 8 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center. Hoover, Parker, Ramsay and Tuscaloosa County are among the other teams in the second year of the event.
