The Mountain Brook High School volleyball team finished its record-breaking season as one of the top four teams in the state.

Nine busloads, or about 490 students, from the high school have paid to attend Wednesday morning's State Quarterfinal match, and another 377 from the Junior High joined the crowd, according to parent Kathy Webber.

Mountain Brook Sporting Goods printed 1,000 pink Spartan T-shirts for student fans to wear to cheer on the team.

Last week, the team qualified for Elite 8 State Finals for the first time since 1997 and then went on to win the North Super Regional for the first time.

The girls defeated Sparkman on Saturday in Huntsville to qualify for the State Finals. Later that day the team defeated Huntsville in the North Semis and then Bob Jones in the North Finals.

Mountain Brook, the No. 1 seed from the North, defeated the  No. 4 seed from the South, Baker High from Mobile, Wednesday morning in the Quarterfinals game.

Wednesday evening in the Semifinals game the girls fell to Huntsville after a tough fight, winning the first and third of five games.

The Elite 8 State Finals took place place at the Crossplex in Birmingham at the old State Fairgrounds located west of downtown.
