Mountain Brook competes in state wrestling tournament

Mountain Brook sent five wrestlers to the AHSAA state wrestling meet last weekend, scoring 34 points total as a team in Class 7A at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.

In the 132-pound weight class, Drew Reed was defeated by Auburn High School's Khaleel Johnson in the championship match. He defeated Hoover's Corwin Russell and Oak Mountain's Carson Lester to reach the championship, and finished the season with a 51-2 record.

Thomas Byrne won by decision over D'Angelo Dewitt of Hoover to take third place in the 182-pound division. He defeated Austin Phillips (Smiths Station) and Jadarius Johnson (Central-Phenix City) after being beaten by Dewitt in the quarterfinals. Byrne concludes the season with a 41-16 mark.

Frank Brown (138), Cole Holmes (152), and Robert Randolph (160) also competed for the Spartans.
