Mountain Brook High School Girls Golf wins state

After getting off to a shaky start due to injuries and illness, the MBHS girls golf team won substate and state tournaments to claim the 6A state title.

They also won the Lady Red Devil Invitational in Phenix City and Lady Husky Invitational in Childersburg. Earlier in the season, the team placed third at a tournament at Indian Pines in Auburn and fourth at Hike in the Hills tournament at Highland Golf Course.

For the AHSAA State Championship, the Spartans were tied for first (and Tatum Jackson was second overall) after the first day. Mountain Brook ended up winning the tournament by 10 strokes over Auburn. Tatum Jackson finished the tournament in third place overall, while Carolyn McCalley finished eighth. Their two-day team score total was 491.

The young team is made up of juniors Lane Proctor and Carolyn McCalley, sophomores Tatum Jackson and Rhea Nathan, freshman Meg McCalley, eighth graders Catherine Greene and Mathilde Sharman, and seventh graders Edith Amason and Annie Phillips.
