Four teams sit with a 1-1 mark in Class 7A, Region 3 play. Mountain Brook and Spain Park are two of them.

The Spartans picked up their first region win last Friday, holding on over Thompson, 20-17. Spain Park fell to rival Hoover, 26-8.

Friday at 7 p.m. at Spain Park Stadium, Mountain Brook will take its 3-1 record onto the field looking for a win that would do wonders for the Spartans' playoff chances, while the Jags aim to get back on track after three impressive wins to begin the season.

Spain Park quarterback Hunter Howell completed 19-of-22 passes for 218 yards and 3 touchdowns against Vestavia Hills two weeks ago, but the Hoover defense frustrated the Jags' offense and forced four turnovers in the game.

Through four games, Mountain Brook has already matched its win total from the past two years, as they come off back-to-back 3-7 campaigns.

Last week against Thompson, quarterback Hamp Sisson finished 15 of 21 for 125 yards and a touchdown. Harold Joiner picked up 51 yards on 12 carries. The Spartans sealed the game on a late interception from Chandler Cox.

Mountain Brook is 1-1 on the road this season, after the season-opening win over Gulf Shores and a loss to Hoover two weeks ago. The Spartans are off next week.

Spain Park is 2-0 at home this season and are off next week as well.
