Mountain Brook and Shades Valley fans enjoyed an explosive display of offensive football in the Mounties’ 42-28 triumph.

The performance by Spartans’ quarterback Jacob Carroll was cut short by injury, but the Spartans fought on valiantly.  However, the Spartans couldn’t quite match the scoring output of the Shades Valley juggernaut.

The game was tied at 21 with just six minutes to go, after backup quarterback William Brewer hit Andrew Odum with his second touchdown pass.  Brewer completed 15 of 20 passes for three touchdowns and 235 yards.  Earlier in the quarter, Brewer connected with Hunter Branch for a 76-yard touchdown pass.

Shades Valley was led again this week by Keith Mixon, who totaled a whopping 248 total yards and scored touchdowns on the ground, through the air, and via a kickoff return.

The Spartans fall to a deceptive 0-2 record, after close games against Tuscaloosa County and Shades Valley teams. Their next game is at Gardendale on Thursday night.
