Spartans open area play Thursday

Class 7A's third-ranked team, the Mountain Brook Spartans host Hewitt-Trussville on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. as boys area basketball tournaments begin. Vestavia Hills and Spain Park battle in the other half of the bracket at 6 p.m. The winners play Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Spartans are seeing their third straight state championship.
