The Spartans had their way on Thursday night.

In a matchup pitting No. 2 Mountain Brook and No. 5 Vestavia Hills, according to the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association poll, the Spartans dominated to the tune of a 25-13, 25-10, 25-22 sweep of the Rebels at Spartan Arena.

'Tonight, they showed a lot of consistency, and that's probably what I'm most proud of," Mountain Brook head coach Haven O'Quinn said of her team. "They played very clean volleyball and very disciplined."

Mountain Brook scored the first eight points of the match and used that momentum to carry it through the first two sets easily. Vestavia Hills gained some traction in the third set, taking a 20-17 lead before the Spartans scored eight of the final 10 points of the set to win the match.

"Some of the things that we've had to work on, we haven't really been in control. We've had some really great wins, but it's kind of been by the skin of our teeth," O'Quinn said.

"We've come out on top a lot, which is great, but one of our goals that we've been talking about is controlling ourselves and sticking to what we do and not having to worry about who is on the other side of the net and really just controlling Mountain Brook," she said.

The Spartans were in control from the get-go on Thursday and took the comfortable win.

Emmy Kilgore and Caroline Davies led the team with 9 kills. Grace Carr had 6 kills and Ellie Ritter and Mimi Meadows each had 5 kills. Libero Lacey Jeffcoat finished with 23 digs and Libby Grace Gann registered 33 assists, 9 digs and 3 aces.

Meadows, KayKay Benck and Kilgore finished with 8, 6 and 6 digs, respectively.
