Mountain Brook High School assistant boys basketball coach Stu Stuedeman has been named the head coach at Greenville High School, part of the Butler County Schools system.

Stuedeman was approved by the school board in a Tuesday night meeting, making the move official.

"It means the world to me to get an opportunity to be a head boys basketball coach, because there are so many good coaches in the state of Alabama," Stuedeman said. "I'm just so thankful."

Stuedeman spent the last two years at Mountain Brook as an assistant under Bucky McMillan, winning a state championship in 2015 and advancing to the Northeast Regional Semifinals in 2016.

"Mountain Brook is the best basketball program in the state. Bucky McMillan is the best basketball coach in Alabama. I believe in him and that program so much," Stuedeman said.

The support of the players, parents, and fans alike are things Stuedeman emphasized about his time at Mountain Brook.

"I'm so thankful that I've been around enough good players to get this opportunity," he said.

McMillan said Stuedeman put in a lot of the team's half-court defense at Mountain Brook and thinks "he'll do great" at Greenville .

"He brought a college-type coach in a high school program," McMillan said. "We've got a lot of coaching talent in our program."

Prior to Mountain Brook, Stuedeman spent two seasons as the head girls basketball coach at Hewitt-Trussville High School. He has also spent time at Vestavia Hills High School, Chipola Junior College, Spring Hill College, and the University of Alabama in different capacities.
