Mountain Brook Police Officer Robert Rawson was on patrol when he received a call to head to Linda Dobbins Dance Studio.

As Rawson walked into the dance studio, 30 girls looked at him and screamed, “We didn’t do it!” But the evidence was at their feet — more than 1100 cookies they had made for the Mountain Brook Police Department.

One year ago, Linda Dobbins started an appreciation of service members near the 4th of July holiday. So, for their first Patriotic Week, the dancers sent approximately 500 cookies to Marines stationed in Spain and shot a music video celebrating songs from WWII.

“I think it’s important that we say thank you to everybody because, sometimes, we take our freedom for granted,” said Sophie Olszak, who has been dancing at the studio for approximately nine years.

This year, the dancers have chosen to celebrate the Mountain Brook Police Department.

“I think [the girls chose the Mountain Brook Police Department] because it’s local and they wanted to give back to the community,” Dobbins said.

The dancers were competitive when it came to who could make the most cookies, according to Dobbins. Many dancers chose to make more than 100 cookies themselves.

In addition to the cookies, Dobbins and the dancers also created a

video featuring the dancers shot in various places in Mountain Brook Village.
