Golfer wins car at hole-in-one at charity tournament

Is there anything that can make a hole-in-one better? Maybe if that hole-in-one came with a brand new car.

That was the case on May 20 at the 17th annual Mountain Brook Sports Corporation Golf Tournament, where Charlie Vick, playing with Harbert Construction friends Ben Patrick, John Coleman and Jeffrey Brewer, won a 2015 Nissan Murano after he scored a hole-in-one on the 175 yard par 3 of the 11th hole.

Vick said he's been playing golf for 30 years and goes out to the green about two times a month. But Vick assured "it was more luck than it is practice." His car-winning stroke at the charity tournament was the first hole-in-one he ever made.

"I've played a lot of golf in 30 years and never been close to a hole-in-one," Vick said.

Vick and the crowd watched the ball soar through the air and hit the green. Once the ball fell into the hole, Vick said "everybody just went crazy."

The car was awarded to him by Moore Nissan in Bessemer. Jennifer Russell, executive assistant at Moore Nissan, said the ball's trajectory was "just a beautiful, towering flight. One hop and [the ball] rolled right into the hole."

The MBSC event raised over $50,000 towards MBHS athletic facilities, including the newly renovated softball and football field houses.
