Farmers Market Urban Cookhouse SoHo
Area residents talk to local farmers about their produce at Urban Cookhouse’s farmers market in SoHo in Homewood. Restaurant owners plan to bring a similar market to Crestline Village on Wednesday evenings this summer.
Plans are moving forward to bring a farmers market to Crestline Village.
Urban Cookhouse requested to hold a market on Wednesday evenings on Dan Watkins Road at the Mountain Brook City Council Meeting on March 24.
Urban Cookhouse’s plan includes 23 vendor spaces and a kids area that will feature activities such as wiffle ball, moon walks, corn hole and face painting.
The restaurant owners first opened a similar farmer’s market in 2010 in SoHo in Homewood to connect farmers with the community and have since added a Thursday evening market at The Summit. All vendors come from a geographic range of approximately 85 miles.
The Crestline market would run 10 weeks, June 4-Aug. 6, from 4-8 p.m.
At the March 24 meeting, City Council Representative Jack Carl voiced concerns about blocking the flow of commuter traffic on Dan Watkins from 3-8 p.m. and recommended considering a section of Vine Street as an alternative location.
Billy Angell, owner of Oak Street Garden Shop, said he was concerned the market would eliminate employee parking spaces and asked for clarification that the market goods would not compete with Crestline merchants.
The Council concluded that they liked the idea of the market but want work through the details of the location and merchants’ concerns before the next meeting on April 14.
