Mountain Brook police report investigation into several identity theft cases led them to a business in the 2200 block of Pinson Valley Parkway.
An employee at the business was reportedly copying credit cards and distributing the information to others, according to police. This has been occurring for several months, police report, and included victims from a wide area.
In the Feb. 18 community update, police reported a case of identity theft from Feb. 16. A victim in the 2800 block of Fairway Drive reported her credit cards had been used at multiple locations without her permission.
One individual connected to the case was arrested after police responded to a disturbance call on Feb. 16. She had an outstanding warrant, according to police, and she was reportedly in possession of multiple identifies, meth, drug paraphernalia and prescription drugs.
Police also reported a second individual was wanted for questioning in connection to the identity theft report. He was contacted on Feb. 17 and was reportedly wanted on an outstanding felony warrant. Upon arrest he was in possession of meth and drug paraphernalia, according to police.
Police also reported five property thefts. Two thefts were instances of shoplifting at Brookwood Village. Both thefts occurred on Feb. 24, and jewelry, perfume, clothing and bedding were reported stolen.
Another theft reportedly occurred between April 6 and July 15 in the 40 block of Ridge Drive. Two rings were stolen, according to the report.
Between Feb. 22 and Feb. 24, a cement mixer was reported stolen from the 50 block of Pilgrim Place, and on Feb. 23, a diamond ring was reported stolen from a residence in the 3000 block of Cherokee Road. Two au pairs and three maids were present, according to the report.
Other incidents reported included:
- A car parked in the 3500 block of Cherokee Road had its windshield broken and paint damaged between Feb. 20 and Feb. 21. The incident was categorized as criminal mischief.
- A resident and a worker in the 3700 block of Crestbrook Road reported being threatened by a known subject on Feb. 13.
- A small purchase was made in the 2700 block of Cahaba Road using a counterfeit $100 bill. After the purchase, the business made change for two to three counterfeit $50 bills, according to the report. This was categorized as possession of a forged instrument.
- A hit and run was reported on Feb. 24 at 3:12 p.m. The incident occurred on Overbrook Road at Overbrook Lane, and a black female driving a dark blue vehicle reportedly fled the scene after striking another vehicle in the rear.
