The Birmingham United Soccer Association 2001 Elite Red Girls’ Team recently won the championship in the Under 11 Copper Division of the Red Diamond Vulcan Cup hosted in Birmingham, Alabama.
The team defeated four teams from Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee to claim the championship title. The final was a hard-fought contest that ended in a tie in regulation. Two overtime periods followed with no score, leading to a 17 penalty kick shootout to decide the match. Our girls came out ahead on PKs and won the championship.
